Find the work that you were meant to do is more about paying attention and being honest with yourself than anything else. But sometimes a framework or a template for identifying those things helps put certain opportunities into perspective.
It is Friday January 5th and I’m Josh Newton.
Welcome to the on Josh Newton show where it is all about putting your potential into practice. Today I want to talk about a very practical way to identify the work that is ideal for you.
I talked about this a bit in the past but I want to get a little bit more specific on this idea. If you’re looking at a job a career or just any kind of project one of the things that you have to look at is how well it fits you are unique design as well as the things that you care about in the things that you’re good at.
The easiest way to identify this is to think of three overlapping circles one of those is the things that you are good at these are skills that you have things that you are very good at another one of those circles are things that you love to do. And in the third one are things that the market actually cares about.
Now if you’re looking at doing something that you’re good at then you love to do but the market doesn’t care about it that’s called a hobby you can continue to do those things but they really shouldn’t dominate your time, now if you’re looking at things that you’re good at and the market cares about that you don’t love them that’s just a day job,
that’s something you’re not going to love it it’s not something to be able to do long term that you look at things that you love to do in the market cares about but you aren’t very good at them, those are a pipe dream you’re going to have to let those things go.
The ideal work for you is going to be something it’s a combination of all three of those things. So you’re going to be good at it you’re going to be passionate about it you’re going to love to do it and it’s also got to be something that the market cares about.
If you’re looking to get out of a current situation or current job that you really don’t love what I would encourage you to do is focus on the first two what are the things that you’re really good at and that you’re really passionate about. And then start to look for opportunities to make the market care about those things or to identify how the market might care about them. You might be really interested in people or in taking care of animals that there might be something that’s really really gets your attention and that you really love to do and you also find that you’re extremely good at it. That doesn’t mean that there’s not a outlet for that that the market will actually care about this is where you have to start experimenting.
I want to end this little segment with a question what situations are what opportunities have you identified that tick all three of those boxes for you? If you have an example of that I would love to hear about it and if you’re listening to me on anchor you can give me a call in or leave me a comment and let me know what that is, if you’re listening to this on the podcast on social media you can find me on Facebook Twitter and Instagram under I’m Josh Newton I’d love to hear your feedback and I’d love to hear your input.
